Full Text

The Gleaner heartily wishes the Providence News success because it wishes to see a Republican daily newspaper in Providence, but the News makes some very "bad breaks." For example, it says in an article wherein it assumes the title of the representative newspaper of Rhode Island that the "Telegram represents nothing" but as a matter of fact, it quotes and makes more comments upon Telegram "rot" than from any other daily paper.

Thanks! But the News, in denying to the Telegram a representative character, did not mean to deny it interest, circulation or even influence in certain directions. It doesn't represent anything in particular except its controlling genius, but it's awfully funny sometimes and very available for purposes of quotation.
