HERALD OF THE TIMES.
Thursday July 22d 1852
Election Monday, Nov. 8.
Whig National Nominations
For President,
Winfield Scott
For Vice President,
William A. Graham,
of North Carolina.
Electors,
ELISHA HARRIS, of Coventry.
ISAAC P. HAZARD, of Newport.
AMOS D. SMITH, of Providence,
CHARLES ALLEN, of North Kingstown,

The occasional dissatisfaction which was expressed by some when the nominations of the Whig National Convention were first announced, has nearly all passed away, and most all these gentlemen are now coming into the ranks, and manifesting a determination to give a warm and strong support to Scott & Graham. This is right and proper, for no party can long exist, unless all its members abide by the Convention nominations, and support the regular nominees, be they who they may. We have conversed with many gentlemen who are from various parts of the country, and they all give us the most encouraging accounts of good feeling and unity in the Whig party, in their various sections. As soon as the warm weather is over, and the excitement of the campaign fairly commences, the whole Whig party will be aroused to action as thoroughly as it was in 1848.— All candid men are satisfied with the administration of Millard Fillmore, for there is no act of his which can reasonably be found fault with; and we all know that Gen. Scott, if elected, will continue the policy which has guided President Fillmore, and caused his administration to be a model for succeeding Presidents who have the best interests of the country at heart. As a statesman, Gen. Scott has been repeatedly tested in South Carolina, on the Northern frontier, twice, and in Mexico; and on all occasions he exhibited a high order of talent, independent of his military genius and abilities. The duties which he performed on these occasions were of an exceedingly delicate nature,—and he was fully equal to the emergency, and honored his country and added to her fame. His talents as a statesman are of a far higher order than those of Gen. Pierce, and he has had far greater experience and been much more severely tried than the latter.

The majority of the people of this country are Whigs, and we have only to make a grand rally, and we are sure of the election of Scott & Graham, by a triumphant vote. Scott was never defeated, and in whatever position he has been placed, from Chippewa to the City of Mexico, he has always added new lustre to our national renown, and given increased power to our National character. Now we will fill the measure of his fame by placing earth's greatest civic wreath around his veteran and honored brow.
