Full Text
Determined not to be entirely overcome by the disappointment, the Haverhill Light Infantry, and a company of citizens on horseback, were out on Thursday afternoon, parading the streets in fine style, after which fifty citizens sat down to the same table which had been prepared in honor of the President, and partook of a sumptuous feast.
The Iris says—"Notwithstanding his sickness (which we all regret) our citizens are generally very sorry that the President was induced to alter his route. He goes direct from Salem to Lowell instead of coming to Haverhill. It seemed that if he was well enough to go to Lowell he was well enough to come to Haverhill. If his health is too poor to go the whole route of his journey, it seems as though he ought not to proceed any further on it. Had he come to Haverhill and then could have gone no farther, the Lowell people could have no cause of complaint. Now the people of Haverhill may think they have been slighted by the President."
