Full Text

Their Ardor Cooled.

It was reported last night about the Peabody hotel that the Abbott opera troupe were coming down the street from the railway depot in five carriages. It however turned out to be a false alarm. The five carriages were, as stated, but the occupants were merely some two dozen youthful admirers of Miss Abbott and her associate songstresses, who had waited in the raw, open air about the depot until benumbed by cold, merely to find, when the train approached, that the opera people were not on board, but would be in on the train this morning.

Those prominent in the attempt to hold an open air reception were quiet about the result, while others who became familiar with the circumstances teased and twitted the disappointed party with a variety of jocular expressions.
