It is doubtless well known to most of your readers that the Journal and its eldest son (the Chronicle), have for a number of months past almost daily been charging the Suffrage party with firing and attempts at firing this City;—but, up to the present time, I have not heard of a single instance of an individual belonging to that party having been detected or even suspected of an attempt at any thing of the kind. A number of hay stacks and barns have lately been burnt in and near this city, and all charged to the Suffrage party without even a shadow of evidence. At last something has transpired which bids fair to throw a little light upon this subject. One night last week, a hay stack, standing in the north part of this city, belonging to Mr. Hull, was set on fire and consumed—and, as good luck would have it, three young men, fifteen or sixteen years of age, well known in this city, were seen coming from the hay stack just as the fire was discovered. Information was immediately given—the persons suspected, accused; and although they at first denied the fact, yet the proof was so strong that they soon concluded to withdraw the plea of not guilty, and inquired of the owner what he would take and let them off and have nothing farther said about it. It was finally settled by the interference of a few friends of "law and order"—the person who applied the match paying $30, and one of his accomplices $10 and the other $5. As these facts have now become public, and as so much has been said by the Journal and Son about the Suffrage party firing the city, &c., I think it is no more than fair that they should now publish the names of the young men alluded to, in order that the public may see to which party these rascally incendiaries belong,

Main Argument
the suffrage party has been falsely accused of arson without evidence; a recent haystack fire was committed by three young men who were caught and settled privately, and their party affiliations should be published to expose the truth.
