Lucas Old Enough To Know Better
Lucas Leon, 83, of Meloland was arrested late yesterday afternoon by Patrolman Seeberg on a charge of being drunk.
Leon didn't want to leave his seat in the police car when he arrived at headquarters to be docketed but the patrolman finally persuaded him inside. Emerging from the station Leon was a picture of friendliness. Just why he had been booked was perhaps puzzling to him but he insisted on shaking hands with Seeberg for some time before the patrolman was able to get him into the car to continue his way to the county jail. At the jail the prisoner insisted on more handshaking before he was given a room without bath.
This morning the aged man told Judge Perkins that he was treated royally by a friend yesterday afternoon when he came to town to buy groceries. Three large glasses of tequila resulted in his dizzy condition, he declared. The judge sentenced Leon to pay a fine of $25 or serve 12 1/2 days in the county jail but suspended sentence upon the condition that Leon subdue his tequila desires in the future.
