THE GEORGIA G. O. P.
BATHES ELEPHANT
REPUBLICAN PROBOSCIDIAN MAMMAL AND DEMOCRATIC DONKEY WILL PERFORM.

ATLANTA, Ga.—The G. O. P. elephant and the democratic donkey are going to march side by side in the congressional circus in Georgia this year.

J. L. Phillips, party elephant trainer extraordinary, and long an advocate of having both the donkey and the elephant in every political show—to insure, as he says, a good performance in the state and the nation—has given the large, five-toed proboscidian mammal and its flexible trunk and large tusks the first real bath it has had in Georgia in a number of years.

This washing of the elephant, political onlookers say, was some job, but Chief Trainer Phillips apparently never wearied of his task. Then came the rub down and both Trainer Phillips and C. C. Covle, assistant trainer, never stopped until the glossy skin of the animal fairly glistened under their vigorous treatment.

Instead of a black and white banner heretofore conspicuously displayed on the Georgia elephant the banner in future will be pure white. That is to say, the Phillips regime calls for a white controlled republican party in this state.

Women Now Ride Elephant.

So it will be seen that the G. O. P. elephant has been washed, massaged and robed in white so that the women may ride him. That the G. O. P. elephant and the democratic donkey will both have many women passengers is already apparent here by the activities of the women voters.

If politicians of older days could see and hear the talk at meetings held here of late by women the eyes of the aforesaid politicians would gaze from their heads with astonishment.

Two of the most prominent women here under the new order of things are Mrs. W. J. Tilson, wife of a well known Atlanta lawyer, and Miss Betsy Jewett Edwards, the latter of whom is a special representative of the republican women's national executive committee. Mrs. Tilson occupies the highest position yet given to a woman in Georgia politics, she being the vice chairman of the republican state committee. Regardless of party affiliations women voters have listened to speeches delivered by Miss Edwards, and whether the women vote the republican or the democratic ticket this year in Georgia they're going to be a big part of the show when the elephant and the donkey walk across the stage this fall.
