Full Text

Hague, Aug. 16. Nothing is more certain, than that the Marquis de St. Gilles is to go for England, he having already received his instructions, tho' he is to wait for further Orders before he embarks.

His Excellency Mr. Walpole continues his private Conferences with our Ministers, as 'tis supposed, for concerting the Measures that are convenient to be taken in the present Situation of Affairs.

There does not seem to be any Intention at this Place, of acceding to the Plan of the Treaty lately communicated: Besides, the Invitation is so cold, and so far from pressing, that 'tis easy to perceive the Emperor and France do not want the Concurrence of the Maritime Powers to this Treaty.

Be this as it will, Mr. Trevor, in a late Conference with the States Deputies, imparted the Sentiments of the King of England relating to the said Treaty, or Plan of a Treaty, that was communicated to His Majesty; and he declared, that his Master was resolved to act in Concert in every Thing with the States-General.

M. Hopp, our Minister at London, has likewise Orders to make the same Declaration on the Part of their High-Mightinesses, to the Court of England: So that these two Powers seem more and more disposed to cement the Bands of their ancient Union.

As to the War with the Turks, some Politicians are very confident it will soon be at an End; and as if France alone was to be Mistress and Umpire of this War, they pretend that 'tis expressly stipulated, by a secret Convention betwixt that Power and the Emperor, that Azoph on the one Side, and Bosnia on the other, shall be the Prize of the Peace, and the Ne Plus Ultra of the Conquests to be made upon the Turks.
