FOOD ADMINISTRATOR GETS PERMISSION TO CONTINUE TO ISSUE PRESERVING PERMITS UNTIL TUESDAY NIGHT.
While Saturday was the last day for the issuance of special permits for sugar for preserving purposes, Food Administrator F. M. Mangum announces that he has secured permission from the state administration to extend this privilege for two more days. After Tuesday, September 10th, however, no more such permits will be allowed.
The food administration asked for an extension of the time because of the fact that numbers of people telephoned him that they had been unable to reach his office and that they needed sugar for preserving pears or making crabapple or scuppernong jelly.
In the last two weeks more than 1,100 permits for 25 pounds of sugar each were issued in this county. Mrs. J. W. Stallings presented the food administration office with samples of scuppernong jelly, and Mr. E. J. Schroeder remembered it also with a jar of candied raisins.
