This forenoon at 11 o'clock Major M'Pherson's battalion of volunteers, in full uniform, and completely equipped, marched from the State House on the expedition to the westward.
An immense concourse of their fellow citizens were assembled on the occasion—on every countenance were impressed the most lively sentiments of fraternal affection, solicitude for a favorable issue to their patriotic enterprize, and their safe return to their families and friends.
The sacrifice made by this and other respectable corps of volunteers, of the domestic scenes of tranquility and peace, nothing can exceed, and never can be forgotten—at the moment of their departure, they were cordially saluted with three cheers, which were returned by the battalion.
The following are the officers of this battalion Wm. M'Pherson, major Comdt. Peter Baynton, and Thomas M'Euen Captains.—Thomas Willing and John Mullowny, first Lieutenants, James Davidson, Jun. and Richard C. Jones, second lieuts. Robert Heysham Adjutant. Casper W. Morris, Quarter Master.
