WASHINGTON, (P)—The Geological Survey said today a new edition of the map of the entire Territory of Alaska is expected off the presses in a week or two.
The Survey announced at the same time that operations to provide more detailed Alaska maps in the future have been started in the territory by two typographic mapping parties.
Using helicopters, the teams will cover two general areas in this summer's program.
New mapping will be done in one area, covering about 17,000 square miles in the Kantishna River, Melozitna, Tanana, Fairbanks, Healy and Mt. McKinley sectors.
In the other section, field workers will check cultural data contained on maps almost ready for publication. This area will cover about 68 additional quadrangles in the Seward, Kenai, Tyonek, Blying Sound and Seldovia sectors.
