At the dinner in compliment to Mr. Bedinger, recently given at Charlestown, Daniel B. Lucas, Esq., responded happily to a call upon him, and interspersed his remarks with the following apt quotation of a song (suggested by its performance by the band) which portrayed in a few words the hold which the guest of the day had upon the affections of his friends:-
'Oh, Henry is it you dear, safe, safe at home:
They did not tell me true, dear, they said you would not come.
I heard you at the gate, and it made my heart rejoice,
For I knew that welcome footstep, and that dear familiar voice.
Making music on my ear, in the lovely midnight gloom:
Oh, Henry, we have missed you, welcome, welcome home!'
