PIRATES.

NORFOLK, JULY 27.

West India News,—Every day brings us some new account of depredations committed by private armed cruizers in the West-Indies. One of these vessels which had been cruizing in the neighborhood of Curracoa, and perpetrating numerous acts of piracy, captured on the 29th of April a Danish schooner belonging to that Island, with a valuable cargo of wine, cotton and coffee, besides 448 doubloons. The pirates sent the crew of the schooner ashore at Bonaire; but the owner remained some time on board the piratical vessel, endeavoring to get the schooner released, tho' it was to no purpose; the capt. answered all his remonstrances by alleging that his crew were determined to make a prize of her, and he was obliged to comply.

The same privateer, a day or two after the above capture, fell in with the Spanish brig Manuel of 12 guns, and 35 men, in company with another armed brig and schooner; the Manuel was from Puerto Cabello, bound to Barcelona, in Spain, and was laden with cotton, indigo and cocoa. The privateer soon brought the Manuel to action, when the other brig and schooner made off. The action was sustained with great obstinacy for several hours, when, just as the pirate was in the act of hauling off, having lost her bowsprit and sustained much damage in her sails and rigging, the Manuel unfortunately blew up. Eight of the crew of the Manuel escaped in the boat and landed at Bonaire, and several others were picked up out of the water by the privateer's boats.

Admiral Brion, in a letter to the commandant at St. Thomas, dated at the Five Islands May the 1st, speaks of one Hudson who had armed & fitted out privateers without any authority from the Venezuelan government; the Admiral declares him a pirate, and states that he should give directions to his cruizers to intercept him. Admiral Brion's squadron at the above date consisted of the Vittoria, (flag ship) 36 guns, two corvettes of 24 guns, and various others of less calibre, independent of smaller vessels.
