Full Text

It is stated that Marshal Soult is proceeding with great activity in the organization of the French army; and these warlike proceedings are now regarded with greater interest than ever. France, however, is not yet ready for war. "Nothing," observes a private correspondent, "is wanting on the part of the minister to reach the desired point, but it is yet to be attained. One fact will show the anxiety to qualify as soon as possible the young soldiers for a campaign: they are drilled incessantly throughout the day, and during several hours of the night. The conscription of 1830 will be called into activity next month, while there have been already raised within the last three months 118,000 men. Since the revolution 70,000 have enlisted voluntarily, and in another month the French army will amount to 350,000."
