VACATION'S ENDING
By Harry J. Arnold
The schools are open and the bells are ringing.
Children all happy and joyfully singing.
Are gathered in hallways with pencil and books:
Each one envious of how the other one looks
And trying hard with all their power
To capture the pride of the approaching hour.
Each heart beating with patriotic joy.
Typical of any true American girl or boy.
The principal says. "We'll now sing our hymn"
So they all join in with strength and vim.
And raise their voices to God above
In a ringing praise of truth and love.
So the doors swing open. they all march in.
And promptly prepare their tasks to begin.
The teachers are all there and in their places,
With twinkling eyes and smiling faces
With a comforting message of tender care.
They open the session with a word of prayer:
With a counseling tongue and a receiving ear.
They draw the hearts of the children near.
And thus they proceed in full preparation
To molding the future of our great generation;
As out of these schools come leaders grand
That frame the destiny of our great land.
So fathers and mothers and teachers dear,
Carry on this great work from year to year,
Until at last in that great throne above,
They receive their reward of peace and love.
