FIRST EASTERN DISTRICT.
The result of the fourth trial for a federal representative for this district, is now officially ascertained.
The statement of the votes is as follows:—
Federal. 726
Anti Federal.
Martin Kinsley, Esq. 395
Of course there is no choice. Another trial is to take place on the twenty ninth of this month, and precepts are accordingly issued. The returns to be made by the 23d of August. It should be observed that Mr. Cook and Mr. Bradford declined being candidates, previous to the election; but the time was so short between the days for election, that the intelligence was not generally communicated; otherwise there would undoubtedly have been a federal choice.
As Mr. Thacher has brought forward such a handsome support at his first trial, it is earnestly hoped that he will now be so far united in as to insure a choice. In addition to the serious inconvenience of having so many candidates at the late election, the meeting unfortunately took place at the very busy season of hay time, when most of the substantial yeomanry were engaged in their fields. Of this circumstance the jacobins took advantage, and every lounging individual of them, from grog-shops and other places of resort, united in their favorite candidate, Martin Kinsley—But we trust that due attention will now be paid, by the friends of the constitution, to the importance of duly exercising their most invaluable right of free suffrage; and not, by neglect, suffer themselves to be ridden by self titled patriots, and desperate adventurers.
