Thursday Night, at eleven o'Clock, a most dreadful Fire broke out in the lower Part of the House of Mr. Tully, Hosier, opposite Salisbury Street, in the Strand, which entirely destroyed the same, as also two Houses on the east Side thereof, viz. Mr. Snowball's, Grocer, and Mr. Hulston's, Barber; and on the west the House of Mr. Baker, Cheesemonger, together with seven other Houses in two back Courts, inhabited by poor Tradesmen and Mechanics, who were not insured, and whose Distresses is inexpressible, having saved none of their Effects, many not even their Wearing Apparel, being obliged to escape naked, particularly a poor Widow, a News Carrier, with four small Children; nor did the Shopkeepers fronting the Strand save any Thing. Several other Houses were much damaged.
