Killed by Sewer Gas.

PROVIDENCE, June 10.—Germano Palumbo, Pasquale Maffeo, Cresenzo Desimone, Italians, and Charles Cassidy, a tailor of this city, were overcome by sewer gas at a cess pool at the rear of 569 Charles street. Desimone descended a ladder into a vault to repair a leaking pipe connected with a house of which he is the owner, and had no sooner reached the bottom than he was overcome by the gas which escaped from an adjoining vault. Maffeo and Palumbo descended soon after, and they, too, lost consciousness. After several attempts rescuers succeeded in bringing up all three of the men. Palumbo was dead, and the condition of the others is serious. Palumbo was 32 years old and leaves a family.
