THE
NEW SHUFFLE
It is reported that under the new administration
Alaska will see the broom sweep clean in every federal
office. It is said this will include all those Democrats who
have held office under Republican administrations. Again,
that the Democratic organization of Alaska will exclude
all such former or present incumbents in their endors-
rions for appointive office.
Thus many of the mugwumps who have straddled
the fence while the Bourbons were fighting in the open
will find themselves outside of the plum orchard.
And it is just that this change take place. Too long
tenure in public office makes for lethargy and stunts pro-
gress. From time to time it is necessary to introduce new
blood and have a general shakeup.
In the process of recommending men for Federal ap-
pointment it is reported that the acid test will be applied
with a view to naming men whose names will not evoke
opposition in Washington.
If no other result follow it will mean the clarifying
of the political atmosphere and the encouragement of
men to take a decisive stand on principles rather than
cat-hopping from one party to the other under the inspir-
ation of getting a nose into the feed trough.
