The Wisconsin republican state convention met at the capitol in Madison, at noon, on the 5th inst., and was called to order by Hon. R. H. Baker, chairman of the republican state committee. Hon. W. E. Carter was made temporary chairman, and Mr. A. C. Willard temporary secretary. After the appointment of the usual committees the convention took a recess until 2 o'clock.

On reassembling Wm. McLaren, of Milwaukee, was made permanent president, and H. M. Kutchin, of Fond du Lac, secretary. A ballot for president resulted Blaine, 90; Washburne, 88; Sherman, 42; Grant, 39; Edmunds, 3.

The delegates at large chosen to represent the state at Chicago, are J. B. Cassidy, of Rock, (Washburne); Edward Sanderson, of Milwaukee, (Sherman); Thomas B. Scott, of Wood, (Washburne); G. Van Steenwyk, of La Crosse, (Washburne).

The district delegates chosen, are:

First District-J. V. Quarles [Washburne], and Chas. Palmer [Blaine]. Alternates, E. S. Stone and T. M. Nichol.

Second District-A. J. Turner [Washburne] and Geo. K. Bryant [Grant]. Alternates, D. E. Welch and W. D. Hoard.

Third District--W. E. Carter and N. L. James [both Blaine]. Alternates, A. C. Dodge and J. N. Rewey.

Fourth District-E. M. Rogers and F. C. Winkler [both Sherman]. Alternates, S. S. Barney and John Roger.

Fifth District-W. H. Hemschemeyer and J. C. Wedge [both Washburne]. Alternates, W. T. Rambusch and D. D. Treleven.

Sixth District-Philetus Sawyer and Maj. Levi Howland [both Blaine]. Alternates, H. S. Sackett and B. T. Rodgers.

Seventh District-J. M. Rusk [Washburne] and F. L. Gilson [Blaine]. Alternates, M. A. Thayer and J. W. De Groff.

Eighth District-S. W. Hunt and Isaac Stephenson [both Blaine]. Alternates, C. S. Kelsey and A. J. Hayward.

The following were selected as electors: L. S. Blake, John Kellogg, George E. Weatherbee, Wm. P. McLaren, C. T. Lovell, E. L. Brown, F. I. Kribbs, John T. Kingston. Electors at Large-Geo. End, of Sheboygan, and Knud Langland, of Racine.

The delegation goes to Chicago without any instructions from the convention.
