Yesterday's session of the House was marked with
great interest. Mr. Matteson having made a statement,
on the part of Mr. Fitz Henry Warren, controverting a
portion of the personal explanation made the day before
by Mr. Giddings, a select committee of five was ordered
to examine into the truth of the allegations in the Boston
Atlas against Mr. G. The Galohin case was then
taken up, and, after three speeches upon it, the previous
question was seconded by the House. Mr. Schenck's
proposition, virtually censuring the Secretary of War,
was then adopted by a vote of yeas 158, nays 25. The
virtual censure of the President, moved by Mr. Thompson,
of Mississippi, was then agreed to by a vote of yeas
91, nays 86. After which the friends of the administration
endeavored for some time to effect an adjournment
by calls for yeas and nays, &c. the question before the
House being on a motion to lay on the table another motion
to reconsider the vote censuring the President. The
adjournment was effected in this manner at half-past
5, p. m.
