MADRID, April 14.-One Police
Lieutenant was killed and another
seriously wounded, and a number
of civilians were trampled and
beaten in the Capital during the
celebration of the Fifth Anniversary
of the founding of the Republic of
Spain.
Disorders began when a series of
bombs exploded behind the
President's reviewing stand as the
military parade passed through the
entire city.
The blasts, which hurt none,
created a panic among the spectators
with many injuries resulting from
the crush.
The police expressed the belief
Fascists are behind the incident as
a demonstration against the
Republic.
The police arrested Isidor
Estefania, aged 43, a cook, as having set
off the fireworks. He claimed he was
intoxicated.
The bombs or petards, a type used
in Spanish celebrations, were strung
together on a long wire concealed
on the ground under trees near the
grandstand.
