"Major Rogers has been attack'd by a Thousand French and Indians: He had two Hundred Men with him, and ten Officers, out of which he and a Lieutenant and fifty-seven Men only escaped. He says he hath killed at least two Hundred Men, and brought eight Scalps with him."
Other Accounts say, that the Major first came upon a large Body of the Enemy near Ticonderoga, upon whom he fired and killed at least fifty, upon which a great Number came out of the Fort and attacked him, whom he drove back into the Fort again; but at last was attack'd by such Numbers as obliged him to retreat to Fort Edward as well as he could. 'Tis hoped that many of his Men who were missing and dispersed in the Woods, may in Time return to the Fort.
