Republicans Snowed Under Two to One or More--Road Tax and Stock Law Secures Majorities.
The Republican landslide which swept most of the nation Tuesday failed to encompass Faulkner county, where the Democratic ticket was carried by an overwhelming majority.
The vote was one of the largest ever polled in the county. From top to bottom the Democratic ticket was victorious by a ratio of two to one or better. E. L. Smith, the Democratic nominee for county judge, against whom the Republican attack in this county was centered, won by a majority which will reach 1,000 when complete returns have been received.
On account of the heavy vote and lengthy ticket the count was unusually slow, election officials in several precincts not beginning the count until this morning.
Up to 2 o'clock this (Wednesday) afternoon the Log Cabin Democrat had received unofficial returns from 19 of the 27 precincts in Faulkner county. The count in the country precinct of Cadron township was not completed at that hour and is not included, but is running at least 2 to 1 Democratic, it was stated, with 339 votes polled. Other missing townships are East Fork, Enola, Cypress Valley precinct, Mountain, Palarm, Pierce Creek and Wilson.
The 19 precincts give Smith for county judge a majority of 832 over Reynolds, and all the other Democratic nominees are leading by majorities of 1,000 or more. While Enola township is expected to give a heavy Republican majority, the total vote yet to be compiled will increase the Democratic lead.
Road tax has carried the county by a big majority. Amendments 13 and 14 both received heavy majorities, but neither has secured an absolute majority of the votes cast in the county. Amendment No. 15 is apparently defeated in this county.
