The Executive Board of the Mississippi State Federation of Colored Women's Clubs met at Clinton in the home of the Custodian Saturday, April 15, 1950 with Mrs. L. T. Miller presiding. Club women from all sections of the state were present. They assembled on their own grounds to see and study the great potentialities of their possessions.
The agenda for the day included the President's report in which she made the following suggestions:
(1) Recommendations for the growth and development of club work in our state.
(2) A study and evaluation of the property at Clinton.
(3) Appointment of committees to help carry on the work of the organization.
(4) A study of the Lawrence C. Jones Essay Contest and awarding of prizes.
(5) Definite plans for continued cooperation with the National and Southeastern Federation.
a. The collection of club money for the Hallie T. Brown scholarship.
b. The full quota for state representation.
c. National notes-the subscriptions for the same.
(6) The selection of key women to help carry on a financial effort, namely: Mrs. Eva Hall Harris of Lincoln County, Mrs. Tlema Johnson, Jefferson Davis County, Mrs. F. D. Parish of Madison County, Mrs. Willie M. Latham of Grenada and Mrs. A. B. Harper of Simpson County were asked to serve in their respective communities to stimulate interest and raise funds for the Southeastern and its activities.
The president, Mrs. G. W. Williams, further stated that developing more fully the resources of our property at Clinton and projecting plans for a building program were the main issues of the day. Mrs. Ruth O. Hubert gave a report from the Board of Directors which included a letter from the Boy Scout Executive. The women were free in their expressions of joy and satisfaction in the upkeep of the farm property. They shared expressions of hope in getting a building on federation-owned property at Clinton. The State President appointed a building committee of women with Mrs. J. E. Johnson and Mrs. Ruby Stutts Lyells as co-chairmen to work out plans to submit to the membership of the federation at its annual meeting.
