EVANGELIST IN TAX ARGUMENT WITH TREASURY

WASHINGTON, June 24. (U.P.)

Aimee Semple McPherson, Four-Square evangelist of Los Angeles filed today with the board of tax appeals a new petition for reconsideration of a $17,486 income tax assessment claimed by the government in discharge of 1927 and 1928 tax obligations.

The difference between today's petition and a similar one recently filed was that Mrs. McPherson signed her name to the latest plea.

Llewelyn A. Luce, attorney for Mrs. McPherson, said the first petition had not been signed because his client was abroad when it was filed.

The government contends Mrs. McPherson's income for 1927 was $19,236 instead of the $9,712 which she reported and she should have paid a tax on $107,395 for 1926 instead of $18,668.

Mrs. McPherson contends the additional income was in the form of gifts and not taxable. She was not present at the hearing today.
