The 30th ultimo, being the last Wednesday in May, the Gentlemen returned to serve as Senators and Representatives in General Court met at the State-House in this town, agreeably to the Constitution, and took the oaths and subscribed the declaration required, before the Governour and Council for the time being, who then withdrew: The Senate made choice of the Hon. SAMUEL ADAMS, Esq. for their President: and the House of Representatives chose the Hon. JAMES WARREN, Esq. for their Speaker: and being again joined by the Governour and Council (who were escorted to the State-House by the Company of Independent Cadets, commanded by Col. Bradford) they proceeded to the Old-Brick Meeting House, where a Sermon, well adapted to the occasion, was delivered by the Rev. Mr. Lyman, of Hatfield, from Rom. xiii. 4. For he is the Minister of God to thee for good.
