"Before this reaches you, you will probably learn from Southern sources the repulse of Banks' advance, about twelve miles from Baton Rouge, of the force under Col. Dudley, and his loss of two regiments. Such is the uncontradicted rumor. The publication of such news here is contraband. Col. Skymurzky, of the Confederate Army, came in yesterday, under a flag of truce, with some three hundred and fifty paroled Federals. A similar number will be brought in in a few days from across Lake Pontchartrain, supposed to be part of Dudley's command. Some of the old Bostonians may remember Skymurzky as the handsome six and one quarter feet young Polander who came to Boston about thirty years ago.—After his exile from Poland, the sturdy rebel will be remembered by the old belles and Tremounters of those by-gone days."
This is the first intimation we have heard of any disaster to Gen. Banks. If true, the concealment of it is very culpable.—Cin. Enquirer.
