"Since our last issue we have had the pleasure of conversing with intelligent gentlemen from various of the surrounding counties, all of whom are in fine spirits, and they say that from present indications Mr Bragg will poll a heavier vote than Gov. Reid did two years ago--while Dockery will not near reach Kerr's. We met a leading man from Union yesterday who told us that the democracy there were never more united and enthusiastic, and that there would be a very full turn out. Dockery is known there --the course he pursued in the canvass for Congress when Hon. G. W. Caldwell was his opponent--the ultra measures and consolidation doctrines advocated then-his demagoguism and overbearing manner will effectually tell against him in that county."
And the Asheville News of the 15th contains the following paragraph:
Good News.--We write this paragraph from Cherokee County Court. We have been, within the last two weeks, in the counties of Burke, Rutherford, Buncombe, Haywood, Jackson, Macon and Cherokee, and we have never known our party friends to be in better spirits, more enthusiastic, or more certain of victory, than they are in all these counties. If there is one county at least in the above named where Dockery can be able to hear of him, and we are confident his vote will be better than Gov. Reid's was two years ago. Union, harmony, and industry will insure us a glorious victory. Let us have it.
