It is almost certain that the

field

will be full of candidates for governor.

There are at present four gentlemen who are now considered

candidates- Messrs. Berry, Tappan

Stanley, and Duffie. Great pressure

is being brought to bear on others

and it is confidently believed that

Judge Floyd, Col. H. M. McVeigh,

Ben. Embry, A. M. Wilson, John

Scott, Judge Mack and others who

are being pushed by their friends

will be compelled to come forward

and enter the list. There seems to

be no prospect of anything like a

spirited contest for any office save

the governorship--though several

candidates may yet spring up for all

state offices. At present the secretary

of state, treasurer, superintendent of

public instruction and attorney general

have no opposition.-

[Little Rock Dem.

The fact of the matter, brother

Mitchel, all the young saplings that

were shooting for the various state

offices, seem all at once to have developed

into first-class gubernatorial

timber. This sudden transformation,

is no doubt, due to the overflow, which

drove so many from the bottoms to the

hills and caused them to season prematurely.

The woods are full of them. Every county has

from one to a dozen exactly fitted,

qualified and yearning to fill the position

of governor. The state never was blest

with so many good and true men before;

and the overflow may yet prove a blessing

in disguise. The more the better. Let 'em

season. The press of Arkansas won't kick

as long as the shekels are forthcoming

for announcements.
