NEW-LONDON, April 23.
FAIR PLAY.

A paragraph in "The Messenger," printed at New-Haven, states, that the brig Sally, Capt. James Stewart, of Chatham, who arrived at New-London on the 4th inst. was captured by the British ship Acasto, Capt. Edward Fellows, that the Capt. went on board the Sally himself, and took out of Capt. Stewart's chest 1250 dollars; and sent the Brig into Kingston, where every man excepting the Capt. and boy were impressed. That American vessels and cargoes were constantly condemned there, that the American Consul had transmitted the Secretary of State, a list of sixty Americans impressed at that single port.

The person who communicated the above should, so far as respected Capt. Stewart at least, have represented facts as they existed, if he desired to gain belief. The brig he alludes to is called the Mary, (formerly Sally.) She was captured by a French privateer, and retaken by the British frigate Acasto, captain Fellows; who took out what money he found on board; and on settlement of the salvage by the court of admiralty at Jamaica, accounted for every dollar. The brig is not American but Swedish property; and was sailing under Swedish colours when taken.
