The Warren Hastings brings dispatches from Earl Cornwallis, of the 21st of April, dated from the Camp at Vellore, situated to the N. E. of Bangalore; giving an account of his Lordship's movements after the capture of that fort, in order to effect a junction with the Nizam's army, consisting of about 16,000 effective and well-mounted cavalry, which had taken place on the 15th of April. and his Lordship writes, that he should move with his army on the 22d, to the westward, call at Bangalore for his train of heavy artillery, and from thence proceed towards Seringapatam, which place he expected to reach by the 15th of May, and hoped to reduce before the rains. No action had taken place with the enemy since the capture of Bangalore, Tippoo studiously avoiding it. Copaul had at length surrendered to the Nizam. General Abercrombie remained to the southward of Seringapatam, ready to join Earl Cornwallis as soon as his Lordship should arrive before that capital, and a body of 6000 Mahratta horse had moved, after the capture of Dharwar, to join the General.

Upon the whole, there is no reason to doubt but that Earl Cornwallis had succeeded in reducing Seringapatam before the rains, and that a happy termination of the war has taken place before this time. Our troops were in high spirits and health: and their arms had every-where proved victorious, which was not less owing to their bravery, than to the great judgment and conduct of the officers.
