Upon the whole, there is no reason to doubt but that Earl Cornwallis had succeeded in reducing Seringapatam before the rains, and that a happy termination of the war has taken place before this time. Our troops were in high spirits and health: and their arms had every-where proved victorious, which was not less owing to their bravery, than to the great judgment and conduct of the officers.
