JUNEAU (UPI) - Labor Commissioner Gil Johnson said yesterday Alaska's insured unemployment rate for the week ending May 5 was 15.8 per cent, down from the previous week's 16.2 and the 17.8 rate for the same week a year ago.
New unemployment was listed at 366, while continuing unemployment amounted to 5,163, Johnson said.
The insured unemployment rate by area included Anchorage, 16.2 per cent; Fairbanks, 18.0; Juneau, 8.6; Ketchikan, 11.2; Nome, 34.2; Petersburg, 28.7; and Sitka, 5.7.
