Intemperance.— "Take heed therefore that such a careless canker does not pass thy youth, nor such a beastly affection thy old age; for then shall all thy life be but as the life of the beast; after thy death, no will desire to forget that such an one was—only leave a shameful infamy to thy posterity, who will desire to forget that such an one was—of his own shame and his neighbor's scoff.—the wife's sorrow—his children's trouble—servility—the destruction of reason—the robber's hope—the drunkard is the annoyance of modesty—the spoiler of wealth—the disease of society—the decay of religion—the enemy of the world—the ruin of the body—the perdition of the soul."
—Sir Walter Raleigh
Man is always better for being thrown upon his own resources. Suffer not your spirit to be subdued by misfortune. But on the contrary, steer right onward with a courage greater than your fate seems to allow.
