Full Text

Three or four hundred people, representing all parties, met at the Greenlaw Opera House last night. The object announced was to ratify the ticket headed by Mr. Henry J. Lynn. Speeches were made by General Turner and Ed. Shaw, in a temperate tone. A committee was appointed to confer with the gentlemen named to compose the ticket and report back to another meeting to be held Saturday night. There seems to be some doubt whether Mr. Lynn can accept the nomination without losing his present position as Secretary of an insurance company. He seems to be personally acceptable to all classes, and is particularly so with those who are held together by what is known Low Tax sentiments. He is a man of business capacity, fairness and sufficient nerve to fill any public position within the gift of the people of Memphis—whether he can or will accept remains to be seen. With him at the head and a slight rearrangement or change of the other names that follow there would certainly be two tickets in the field, and neither one would have a walk over the track.
