Organizational Work During The Year
The Women's Christian Temperance Union met at the home of Mrs. Jane Braithwaite, King Road, Tuesday afternoon, September 17.
The meeting opened with repeating pledges to the American, Christian and Temperance Flags, the Temperance pledge and group singing.
Mrs. Freda Straley presented the devotions from the topic theme, "Highways of Education." The Scripture reading was taken from the 35th chapter of Isaiah. The main thought of the discourse was, "Education leads to better understanding and to abstinence from intemperance." She read a poem and a prayer poem. Miss Keyser also read a poem.
In place of the usual program, the time was used in filling out the year's reports of different departments and making plans for the county W.C.T.U. convention which is to be held at the West Jefferson Methodist Church on October 3.
Mrs. Fern Thomas, county president, was present and helped with the plans. Further announcement will be given later.
Cards were signed by the twenty members present to be sent to three members who are ill.
The meeting closed with repeating the Arcnic Benediction.
The hostess and her assistants, Mrs. Mary Elliott and Mrs. Helen Braithwaite served delicious refreshments.
