C. W. Gilbert arrived in town yesterday from near the Churchill county line, where he has been engaged in mining for years. He says a new mining district discovered by Wallace Goodell, and named Bernice, promises to be one of the best south of the railroad. The principal ledge, located and now being developed by Mr. Goodell, is eight or ten feet wide and carries at least seven feet of free milling ore, that assays from $50 to $250 per ton.
There are only a few prospectors in the district, which is between 90 and 100 miles south of Winnemucca. They are not yet prepared to accommodate visitors, so if anybody contemplates a trip there, he must go prepared with provisions and blankets. Now that there is no doubt of the richness and extent of the mines, the prospectors are making arrangements to build houses and lay in supplies for the Winter.
