Full Text
About nine o'clock last evening an Examiner representative was attracted to Franklin street by a vivid, flickering light between Second and Third streets. To his astonishment he found the ruins of the old house burned Monday night were still burning brightly, at least a dozen blazes shooting up and clouds of smoke issuing therefrom. It is surprising that the flames have been permitted to remain unextinguished this long, threatening other property in the vicinity, as well as annoying the people living in the adjoining houses. "The smoke poured through those buildings last night, compelling occupants to close doors and windows." We do not know that it is the duty of the city fire authorities to have this debris extinguished, but it is certainly somebody's duty and the city has the right to see that it is complied with. If it is not a matter for the fire department, the owner or agent of the property should be notified by the city authorities to attend to it at once.
