The March term of the Circuit Court commenced on Monday last, Judges Stump and Wickes on the bench, with Sheriff, juries, bailiffs, crier, witnesses, lawyers, clients, etc., giving Elkton altogether a lively appearance.
With this formidable judicial array up to Friday morning their Honors managed to get two cases tried, which are reported below, involving in the aggregate less than $200:
John H. Harris vs. Chas. W. Clark: an action for the value of a horse; tried before a jury, and verdict for plaintiff for $103.50. Motion for a new trial. Albert Constable for plaintiff; Alexander Evans for defendant.
State vs. Frederick Canisius; indicted for selling liquor without license; tried before a jury, and verdict of guilty. C. McCullough for State; H. McCullough for defendant.
State vs. William J. Leonard (colored); removed case from Harford county; indicted for forging the name of Elijah Heaps to a promissory note; on trial before a jury at the close of this report. C. McCullough and Hopkins for State; Archer and Stump for Prisoner.
On motion of Clinton McCullough, Esq., J. Thomas C. Hopkins, Esq., State's Attorney for Harford county, was admitted to this bar.
James Ramsey, a native of Ireland, declared his intention to become a citizen.
The Grand Jury closed its labors on Wednesday by visiting the new jail and Sheriff's house; and from the tenor of their report, which we give below, Mrs. Sheriff Thomas must have done the handsome in the customary spread. The 'Grand Inquest for the body of Cecil county' is unquestionably very sensitive in the gastronomic nerve.
