On Wednesday last the President of the United States and suite accompanied by Gen. Jackson and his suite arrived in this town--the following day being the anniversary of St. John the Baptist, a Masonic Oration was delivered at the Presbyterian Meeting-House by Wm. Croghan, Jr. and afterwards a Masonic Dinner at the Washington Hall, each of which our visitors attended. On Friday a public dinner was given them at the Union Hall Tavern, and a Ball on the same evening at the Washington Hall. On this occasion, as might be expected, every respectful attention has been paid, and no doubt many a pleasing recollection recalled by the President and his old acquaintances, some of whom were his play fellows in boyhood, and others his companions in arms during the revolution--indeed, we believe an equal number of the officers of the revolution, are not now to be found in so small a space as in this town and neighborhood.
On this day the parties will leave here for Jeffersonville, where a public dinner will be given, from whence they will proceed to Maj. Croghan's, for the night.--Courier.
