Knoxville, March 6.

Copy of a letter to John N. Gamble, Esq. of this place, dated.

MOBILE, Feb. 10th, 1815

Dear SIR—John Bull, it appears intends giving us a visit at this place after his successes at New-Orleans. On the evening of the 6th, the Admiral's ship appeared off Mobile Point. The next morning 25 sail were in sight—They landed some troops in the rear of the fort. On Yesterday morning a heavy cannonading was commenced by the enemy, which was answered from the Fort with a long 32. Lawrence was deliberate and sparing of his ammunition—no doubt every shot he gave them counted.—The firing continued all day yesterday and late last night, and we have heard some this morning. In a party of 1200 are to cross the bay. I go with them. Farewell

W. PURRIS.

P. S. Gen. Coulter's Brigade has arrived—he is under arrest.
