TEACHERS PAY RAISED

Uniform Boost of $450 Each for 5,000 of Them Agreed Upon.

Chicago school teachers are to get a raise of $450 per year each. While this amount will not be satisfactory to the 5,000 teachers who have signed agreements to stand by whatever steps the board of managers of the Chicago Teachers' Federation may take in the effort to get the $2,500 "health and decency" wage demanded, it is a decided step forward in their campaign.

It is believed that an offer of a $450 increase is the best the board can do at this time, in view of the board's finances. There is a strong doubt whether certain elements among the teachers will accept the increase and in view of their agreements to stand together their next move will be watched with interest.

The high school teachers and the grade teachers are at variance regarding their rights. While there has not been an open breach, each group is alert to better their positions in any way.

"We gave the teachers the greatest increase consistent with our borrowing powers," declared Hart Hanson, chairman of the finance committee.
