VOICE FROM THE CLOSET
BY WILD BIRD.
TO
"Dear brother." speaks the spirit voice In accents full of love.
"Haste to thy closet, and a guest Shail meet thee from above!"
"That guest shall fill thy soul with light And dry the starting tear;
His voice shall soothe thy troubled heart With words of holy cheer.
His love shall make the bitter, sweet; His smile dispel the gloom;
And make the desert of thy cares An Eden, full of bloom.
Christ is a Fount of holy thoughts!
And those who love to rest On Jesus' bosom, they shall drink The thoughts that fill his breast.
"Dear brother," speaks the spirit's voice "Drink often of that Fount:
And gather strength to preach the cross On Zion's earthly mount.
O drink, until thy soul is filled With God's compassion deep!
Till thou, with Christ, canst cover sin, And o'er the erring weep.
Drink deeply of the words of Christ And thou shalt win the prize,
And gather sheaves to carry home To realms beyond the skies.
Thy faith shall then be full, and strong, hopes, in bloom, be bright,—
Thy heart shall then be full of joy,— Thy closet, full of light.
Dear brother, listen to the voice!— God's angel lingers there;
The glorious blessing to bestow In answer to thy prayer.
