JURICH'S REPLY CLAIMS PITTMAN WAS OVERPAID

Ely, Nevada, August 1, 1923-Mr. Vail M. Pittman, City: Dear Sir-Replying to that portion of your letter of July 14 last, concerning the sum of $36.50 which you claim I owe you, I desire to call your attention to the following:

During the last campaign you received a check from Reno for $500 to be expended in the interest of the campaign of your brother, Hon. Key Pittman, and other democratic candidates. For obvious reasons you returned this check and received in lieu thereof $500 in currency. During the campaign I personally advanced $100 of my own money for the same purposes.

All of the $500 was not expended by you and at the close of the campaign there remained a balance in your hands. It was agreed between you and I that the balance you had at the close of the campaign would be applied on a bill which you had against the committee for political advertisements and upon the $100 which I advanced, after deducting the amount of my bill due you.

You paid yourself out of the balance, but up to this day you have never paid me, notwithstanding your promise to that effect.

If the above is not clear to you, I will be glad to furnish names, dates, places, amounts and purposes.

Yours truly,
A. JURICH.

Mr. Jurich was questioned about what he meant by the word "purposes" in his letter to Editor Pittman, his reply being that the money was not spent for hall rent, band music, torch light processions and parades, orators, hired applauders, printing, advertising, distributing printed matter, fire crackers, automobiles or a campaign of education of any sort.

Nor was it spent according to Mr. Jurich, for popcorn, peanuts, waffles, cigars, cigarettes, tobacco, ice cream, soda water, lemonade, root beer, grape juice or cider. The money simply was spent and can be accounted for, as it was at the time to the satisfaction of the local and state managements.
