THE COUNTY SUPERINTENDENCY.

Where the Millersville Trustees Stand.

A dispatch from this city to the Philadelphia Times, concerning the contest for county superintendent, says:

'It has been claimed that the normal school authorities, Superintendent Shaub and Senators Mylin and Stehman will be influential in controlling the appointment, and they are understood to favor I. S. Geist, principal of the Marietta high school. Geist was formerly somewhat independent in politics, but last year he was elected by the Stalwarts a delegate to the Republican state convention. A younger element of the school interest is pressing M. J. Brecht, principal of the Soldiers' orphans school, Mount Joy, for the superintendency. It was rumored that a conference of some of the politicians friends was to have been held in this city last evening, but if it was arranged for it was abandoned. Meantime a strong movement will be organized to bring out Prof. E. O. Lyte, of Millersville, for this place.'

From a well informed authority it is learned that while the present county superintendent, the state senators and Millersville state normal school authorities are likely to be influential in the matter of the appointment they are not for Mr. Geist; that Messrs. Geist, Ames, Kieffer, Griest, Bucher and Lyte are out of the fight—by their own act or by reason of other circumstances—and that the most probable appointee is Mr. Brecht; with some discussion of the names of Messrs. Newlin, Leaman and Haldeman.
