The masterly document headed "Peace with Mexico," by Albert Gallatin, the conclusion of which is published in this week's Free Press, has attracted universal attention and admiration from men of sense and candor in all quarters of the country. It is a complete history of the war, and a faithful expose of the criminality of the Administration. Mr. Gallatin's investigations are those of an honest hearted, clear headed, experienced old man, whose venerable head has long since whitened for the grave. He is now about eighty-six years old, and will shortly go down to his grave, after having rendered entire satisfaction in the occupancy of many important stations in the history of this country. Albert Gallatin has been a member of Congress, Secretary of the Treasury during the administration of Thomas Jefferson, Minister to England, a Commissioner on the part of the United States in making the famous treaty of Ghent, which terminated the war of 1812,-etc., etc. His councils are in season, and come with a good grace from his pen.
