A fortunate Soldier.—The new Executive of Pennsylvania, like every other new Executive, is thronged with applicants for office. Among others, Captain David Mait, of Philadelphia, for a renewal of his commission of Port Warden. As a recommendation, he furnishes a list of captures made by him, as a privateersman, during the late war, the number of captures, were 31—the amount of tonnage, 575—number of men, 514. He sailed part of the time in the schooner Atlas, of 14 guns and 70 men, and the remainder of the time in the brig Rattle-snake, of seventeen guns and 113 men. He appears to be a fine jovial old son of Neptune; and says, that in addition to the pulling down of 31 enemy's flags, in the late war, he was present at the striking of sixty-seven in the Revolutionary War, making in all one hundred and one. He notes in his list, that at eight of the captures, in the late war, the schr. Scourge, of New York, was in company.
