A. O. H. RESOLUTIONS.
Convey Sympathy with the Boers in Their Present Conflict.
At the recent meeting of the representatives of the various divisions in the Ancient Order of Hibernians, held recently in Carbondale, a committee was appointed to draft suitable resolutions sympathizing with the Boers in their present conflict, and the following is the result:
Whereas, A state of war exists between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the Boer and Orange Free State republics in Southern Africa.
Whereas, The successful accomplishment of British aggression in the present war will mean the overthrow of the Boer republic and the Orange Free State, and the consequent destruction of representative government and as well as an obstruction to the progress and growth of republican institutions which it is the duty of every American citizen to encourage and promulgate to the end that governments everywhere on the habitable globe may rest on the consent of the governed: therefore, be it
Resolved, By the county board of the Ancient Order of Hibernians of Lackawanna county that it is the sense of this body that the sympathy of the Hibernians of this county be extended to the Boer republic and Orange Free State in the unequal contest: and we declare it to be the duty of the people of the United States through their representatives in congress to call on the president to mediate and tender his good offices to bring about a cessation of hostilities and terms of peace, and at the same time to preserve the absolute freedom and political autonomy of the Boer republic, and the Orange Free State: and further be it
Resolved, That we sincerely sympathize with and heartily endorse any action that may be taken by our national organization, consistently with the attitude of neutrality maintained by our American republic, in the equipment of an ambulance corps, or in the promotion of any other work of mercy that is designed to assist and comfort the gallant and patriotic sons of the African republics, in resisting the invasion of their foreign oppressors.
William Dawson, John J. Fahey, C. C. Donovan, J. C. Vaughan, M. F. Conry, committee.
