Elm-Trees, June 25, 1804.
TO PLAIN TRUTH, A CHRONICLER.
SIR,
THIS morning I received the paper containing your address TO THE MAN AT THE ELM-TREES, Over the signature of Sempronius. It is exactly the THING I wished for.
Pray write me again soon. I am now busy about my corn; and the season being very forward, in a few days I must begin to get my hay ; but as soon as that is in my barn, I will again pay you the homage of my high respects.
Why have you changed your signature ? Do. you think Sempronius is more expressive of your REAL CHARACTER than Plain Truth ? I hope, in mercy to your readers, you will not become less attentive to that object by the change. I have marked you well ; and shall know you under whatever colors you appear? I will not change my position, nor misdirect my fire, if I can help it.
