Can anything that will wreck peace and harmony prevail in Atlanta? With over one hundred thousand prayers prayed here daily and with Wheat Street, Big Bethel, Mt. Moriah and scores of other great pulpits continue to send out boundless gospel sermons. No. no, Greater Atlanta will never fail; with all of these educated diplomats, civic and political leaders. [craften-] titles the Negro to equal any people along all lines by living up to 1 Corinthians 6:12; 1 Corinthians 14:40 --- All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient. Let all things be done decently and in order. Atlanta will never fail; political agitators and dangerous fanatics may creep in, but no matter how high or how low they may be: the Christian influence of Greater Atlanta will smoke them out. God still lives.
Atlanta is a great city with some less valued people. The value of a man's life includes the man from head to foot. The value of a race includes the race from top to bottom. Light fines increase crimes.
Do crimes hold the power of the value of the life of man? There seems to be an element in our race that seeks to kill his fellow man without fear of law and order.
When he really deserves it, the electric chair is his best boss, but some of them don't get a fine of any kind. Who is to blame? Homicide, or would be homicides, love Atlanta: I have heard them brag about it. Atlanta ought to be ashamed of this picture.
Note the following list of Atlanta murders. The Atlanta Police annual report of 1953 shows that whites killed by colored, one; colored killed by whites, one; white killed by whites, three; colored killed by colored, sixty-nine. This Police Report gives the following list of Atlanta murders:
In 1948, whites, two; colored, seventy-four: in 1949, whites, nine; colored, seventy-nine: in 1950, whites fifteen; colored, eighty-six: in 1951, whites, nine; colored, seventy-four: in 1952, whites, fifteen; colored, eighty-seven. We need help from every angle.
Atlanta Crime Committee meets 7 p.m. Monday at the YMCA.
